Welcome to KitsuKana

KitsuKana is a personal, non-commercial Japanese learning application created by Péter Varga. This project was born from an individual developer's passion for both language learning and programming - combining these two loves into an accessible tool for everyone who wants to learn Japanese.

By using KitsuKana, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the application.

Developer & Ownership

KitsuKana is a personal, non-commercial hobby project owned and developed solely by Péter Varga as an individual developer in Hungary. It is not owned by or associated with any registered business entity, company, or professional institution.

Our Products

Péter Varga develops and maintains two language learning applications as personal side projects:

• KitsuKana - A Japanese language learning platform (this site)
• HoranGul - A Korean language learning platform (horangul.netlify.app)

Both applications share the same privacy-first philosophy and are governed by identical terms. Your data is never shared between products unless you explicitly transfer it yourself.

Use of Service

KitsuKana offers free educational content. You may use our service for personal, educational, non-commercial purposes. The application is designed to help you study Japanese, including hiragana, katakana, kanji, vocabulary, grammar, reading, and listening comprehension. All learning content is available at no cost.

Optional Accounts: You can use the core features of KitsuKana without creating an account (Guest Mode). However, to sync your progress across multiple devices, you may choose to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

User Accounts and Termination

If you create an account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend access to our Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation if you breach the Terms.

You may terminate your account at any time by using the "Delete Account" feature in your Profile settings. Upon termination, your right to use the synced Service will immediately cease, and your personal data will be permanently deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Age Requirements

KitsuKana is designed to be suitable for learners of all ages. The goal is to bring Japanese language learning to everybody, regardless of age. The content is educational and appropriate for children, teens, and adults alike.

For users under 13: We recommend parental guidance when using any online service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children or any users. We do not use targeted advertising.

AI in Development

Transparency Notice: AI coding assistants (such as Claude and Gemini) were used extensively throughout the development of KitsuKana - for code generation, content creation, and data generation.

Human Oversight: All AI-generated code and content has been personally reviewed, tested, and corrected when necessary by the developer. While AI helped accelerate development, human judgment ensured quality and accuracy.

We believe in being honest about our development process. AI is a tool that helped bring this project to life, but the vision, decisions, and final quality assurance are entirely human.

Note: The application itself does not use AI to process user data. AI was used only during development, not during runtime.

User Content and Feedback

When you submit feedback through our feedback form, your feedback is anonymously posted as a GitHub Issue in our private repository. Only the developer can view this feedback - it is not publicly accessible.

By submitting feedback, you grant us permission to use it to improve KitsuKana. Although feedback is private, please still avoid sharing sensitive personal information.

Legal Basis (GDPR Article 6): Processing of feedback is based on your consent, given when you voluntarily submit the feedback form.

Donations

Donations are entirely optional and are processed through Ko-fi. Donations help motivate continued development and support costs such as:

• Server hosting and domain registration
• Development tools and resources
• Future improvements and features

Donations do not provide any additional features or privileges.

Payment Processing: We do not receive or store your payment details. All voluntary donation payment processing is handled by Ko-fi and their payment partners (Stripe, PayPal). Please refer to Ko-fi's Privacy Policy for their data handling practices.

Intellectual Property

All content on KitsuKana, including text, graphics, logos, and software, is the property of the developer and is protected by copyright laws. The educational content is provided for personal, non-commercial use only.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without explicit written permission.

Accessibility Commitment

We are committed to making KitsuKana accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. We strive to comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and the European Accessibility Act (EAA).

Disclaimer

KitsuKana is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We strive for accuracy in all Japanese language content, but we cannot guarantee that all content is error-free.

The developer is not liable for any damages arising from the use of this application. This is a passion project created by a student, not a professional educational institution.

Educational Disclaimer: KitsuKana is a supplementary learning tool. It is not a substitute for formal language education, textbooks, or qualified instructors.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from:

• Your access to or use of or inability to access or use the Service
• Any content obtained from the Service
• Unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your data stored in your browser

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Significant changes will be indicated by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Hungary and applicable European Union regulations.

Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hungary, without prejudice to your rights under mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence within the EU.
